First launched as TeacherRatings.com, RateMyProfessors.com is a site for rating college and university professors in the United States, Canada, Ireland, and the United Kingdom. Users can list professors and rate them on a 1-5 scale in the categories of overall quality and level of difficulty. They can also list things like “accessible outside class” or “good grading criteria”. A further, less specific rating exists for whether a professor is hot or not, illustrated by chili peppers. The site has also launched a “Professors Strike Back” feature, allowing professors to respond and defend themselves.
